Birthstone of October *1 - Ore mined in mines

Tourmaline is a natural ore mined in mines. It has been highly valued as one of the birthstones of October.
It has many color variations including white, black, pink and so on. It can be a precious stone.
Colorful tourmaline necklaces can be great gifts as they are popular among all ages.
It is mined mainly in Brazil, China and Israel. Japanese tourmaline is often more expensive because only a small amount can be mined.
*1 Birthstones have not been chosen scientifically but they have been chosen based on legends.
Also known as Electronic Stone

Tourmaline has been known as a miracle stone which generates electricity since the beginning of the 18th century.
It was named as "Electronic Stone" by Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778), Swedish botanist and physician.
In the 19th century, the brothers Pierre and Jacques Curie and Riecke elucidated how tourmaline generates electricity.
Beneficial effects on health in 1990's
Generates negative ion
Tourmaline generates negative ions when external force is applied.
While the generation processes have not been fully elucidated,
it is believed that it is due to the piezoelectric properties of tourmaline.
Tourmaline generates little amount of negative ions when not in motion because atmospheric pressures
and air friction are the only external force applied to it.
However, the negative ions are cancelled out by positive ions floating in the air.
This is why almost no negative ion can be detected when tourmaline is not in motion.
Thermal effects
Tourmaline bedding products make you feel warm.
It is believed that tourmaline emits (far) infrared rays.
This characteristic is utilized to melt snow in areas affected by heavy snowfall.
